SEND

At Harris Academy Chobham we believe all students have the right to achieve their maximum academic and social potential. Inclusion is at the forefront of our practice and we seek to meet the needs of all our students in the most effective and efficient way possible.

The SEND provision at the academy seeks to promote this by providing equality of access and opportunity to all areas of the curriculum. Students are taught in an environment where they receive equal respect and in which their individuality is valued. At the Academy we believe that all students have learning differences and it is our policy to identify and assess children’s learning needs effectively and ensure that learning is supported and personalised to ensure good progress is made by all students.

All SEND provision in the academy is implemented using the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle as recommended by the SEND Code of Practice 2014.

Students needs are identified through careful assessment by school staff and other relevant professionals including Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, Occupational Therapists and other medical professionals. We work together with the parents and child to provide effective provision with a focus on developing independence.

Provision is planned on an individual basis and could include:

  • Scaffolded and supported learning tasks
  • Additional resources to support learning including visual prompts or signs
  • Pre teaching of vocabulary or concepts to support understanding
  • Personalised targets or focus skills
  • Counselling – one to one/small group
  • Speech and Language therapy – one to one/small group
  • Targeted booster or intervention groups in a particular subject
  • Social skills and communication groups
  • Physio or OT programme
  • Personalised timetable
  • Targeted one to one support in class or at specific other times

Where a student is requiring additional support such as the above, parents will always be informed and involved in planning. These reviews will take place termly as a minimum.

If you are concerned that your child may need additional support in school, please contact their teacher to discuss your concerns and plan next steps.

For more information about our SEND provision please see our SEND Policy below.

Our SEN Information Report 2020 reviews our provision for the previous academic year and can be found below also.

For all other enquiries please contact Sarah Gibson, Assistant Principal for Inclusion, SENDCO and Deputy Safeguarding Lead.
