Primary Curriculum
At Harris Academy Chobham, our foremost mission is to enhance the life prospects of every student through education, fostering aspirations and creating opportunities.
This page provides an overview of our primary curriculum. Our all-through Curriculum Policy can be downloaded from our Teaching & Learning page. For detailed insights into each subject, including primary, secondary, and sixth form, please refer to our Subjects pages.
Ambitious & Comprehensive
Our curriculum is comprehensive and ambitious, rich in knowledge and inclusive in scope. It offers students top-tier learning experiences meticulously planned for progression from Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to year 13. With our diverse student body in mind, we've crafted our curriculum to cultivate cultural capital, complemented by excellent teaching that propels learning and progress in a rapidly evolving world.
Knowledge-rich
Our knowledge-rich curriculum ensures that every moment supports children in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and cultural capital needed to become well-educated citizens of the future. It is designed to ensure that knowledge is not just taught but remembered, utilising principles of cognitive science. Subject experts have carefully curated content, enabling children to make meaningful connections and progress consistently across units and years. We cherish each subject, teaching them discretely while fostering interdisciplinary links.
A Focus on Literacy
Our curriculum design prioritises student literacy development, with every staff member dedicated to fostering social mobility and breaking the cycle of disadvantage through the enhancement of reading, writing, and speaking skills. We view these skills as essential for ensuring that students' futures are not dictated by their social or economic status. We strongly believe that nurturing effective communication abilities will empower all our students, regardless of their initial circumstances, to engage with and understand the world around them while thriving both socially and academically. We integrate explicit vocabulary instruction into all units of study and emphasise the cultivation of disciplinary literacy across all subjects.
Beyond the Classroom
We offer students chances to extend their curriculum beyond the confines of the classroom, nurturing their passion for learning, independence and creativity. Through aspects such as outdoor learning days, curriculum-linked trips and visits from external speakers, we enrich their educational experiences and encourage exploration beyond traditional boundaries.
