Poetry
Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words. - Edgar Allan Poe
At Harris Academy Chobham, we ask our students to memorise a poem every half term.
Encouraging our young learners to memorise poetry is a wonderful way to help them grow intellectually and emotionally. Instead of just remembering words, it helps them connect deeply with language, rhythm, and meaning. This practice not only improves their language skills but also teaches them empathy and a love for stories. By learning poetry by heart, our students become better at expressing themselves, thinking critically, and growing as individuals. It's a special skill that adds joy and depth to their lives, both in school and beyond.
Please find a list of the current poems for each year group.
